During the past several years we have seen the decline of St Vincent and the Grenadines in a range of sporting disciplines where once we were competitive. There is now an ongoing debate as to the several factors that impact the state of affairs confronting the Vincentian sporting fraternity today.
International Tennis Federation (ITF) coach, John Goede of Surinam, landed in St Vincent and the Grenadines to commence work on the development of a national sport structure for Tennis. The programme will be conducted over a four-month period though not consecutively.
Coach Goede will return home periodically while the local team assigned to work with him carries on the programme in his absence. This allows the coach to better evaluate the extent to which local ownership of the programme takes place and proves affective. Read the rest of this entry »
The recent CARICOM Conference on Sport Tourism in Barbados examined a number of options in respect of the potential that exists in the Caribbean for the systematic development of a viable industry that adds value to the respective national economies.
The meeting lamented the seeming inability of some countries to take full advantage of what currently exists.
The West Indies cricket team remains at the forefront of the consciousness of our people in the Caribbean if only because of what the game has come to mean for successive generations.
Despite the changing behaviour of our youth the reality still remains that like their fore parents they maintain an interest in the fortunes of the cricket team.
