In the recent past we have had more exposure to sport over a concentrated period than hitherto in the history of this country.

For some it suggests that we can begin to take seriously the matter of sport tourism as a viable development option for St Vincent and the Grenadines. To others it may well have signified the extent to which we are extremely far removed from any sort of preparation for sport tourism.

Historical sporting developments in SVG

Vincentians can feel justly proud that we have once more been ushered into the annals of cricketing history in the Caribbean.

One piece of that history is the fact that this small country has, for the first time, hosted three One Day Internationals (ODI) in quick succession at the idyllic Arnos Vale Sports Complex.

Another piece of history is that here in St Vincent and the Grenadines the West Indies cricket team defeated Zimbabwe in three consecutive ODIs to clinch a series victory after the teams came out of Guyana evenly poised at one match each. Read the rest of this entry »

A most challenging athletics season in 2010

We are in the midst of what is usually seen as the track and field season in athletics. Everywhere schools, primary and secondary, are holding their respective annual athletics competitions.

On 18 March there will be the Heats for the girls for the Inter Secondary Track and Field Championships 2010. On that same day the boys will contest the 5000m Open. The following day, 19 March, it will be the turn of the boys to have their Heats and the girls will contest the finals of the 3000m Open. The Inter Secondary School Track and Field Championships Finals are set for 25 March. All of the foregoing competitions are being held at the Arnos Vale # 1 Playing Field. Sport and the business of life

On Friday 19 February 2010 the international community brought a new programme to St Vincent and the Grenadines entitled, Sport for Life. While this is new to this country it is a programme that has been in existence for some time and appears modelled on other existing programmes.

The launch took place at the Media Centre at the Arnos Vale Sports Complex where the sessions for the participants will be held on Saturdays. Read the rest of this entry »
