Training coaches and the future of Vincentian sport

The St Vincent and the Grenadines National Olympic Committee (NOC) has provided training opportunities thus far for 2010 to coaches of three national associations – Basketball, Table Tennis and Athletics respectively. The courses have been rather intense and the participants have been truly challenged to go forth and utilise what their new qualifications to benefit the vast majority of the youths of St Vincent and the Grenadines. Youth Olympics or Olympic Youth Festival

The inaugural Youth Olympic Games began last weekend amid much enthusiasm by the host nation, Singapore, and the leadership of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The CWC2007 travesty and implications

Much has been said in the recent past about the government’s commitment to the development of sport in St Vincent and the Grenadines. The comments are at best amusing and at worst ludicrous.

The average Vincentian must be at a loss to hear the current administration boast of its commitment to sport and its development especially in light of any sort of cursory analysis of what has transpired in the past nine and one half years. Read the rest of this entry »

Vacation sport programmes

This year has seen a significant increase in the number of sport programmes being hosted during the vacation to occupy many of the students and teachers who are at home. This is a most welcome development and one that requires the highest commendation.

The vacation runs from July to August and there is much time for interest to wane. Sport is an interesting and exciting way to spend one’s vacation since it facilitates discipline while allowing for the learning and honing of skills specific to the particular activity in which one is involved.
