Changes in the West Indies team

This Caribbean of ours never ceases to display immense intrigue and virtually all levels and aspects of life.
In the case of the once dominant sport of cricket this is all the more true and the latest conflict reveals the level of insensitivity of the leadership of the sport in our region. It is not that we are not already well aware of just how ridiculous the leadership of the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) have been over the decades but this new revelation takes this to another level altogether.
While we here in the Caribbean watch in disgust at the on-going conflict between the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) and the West Indies Players Association (WIPA) England has brought a level of discipline and commitment to the sport reminiscent of the West Indies some time ago and Australia thereafter.
Of course, having only just left the West Indies where they brought a team weakened by the absence of Sachin Tendulkar and a few others to barely escape an upset at the hands of our regional team, India did not arrive in England with any significant measure of confidence. The West Indies cricket team has just completed another series. This time around the opponents came from the Indian sub continent.

In a recent interview (Monday 25 April 2011) on the Line and Length Network the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) sought to offer listeners an explanation of what appears to be the organisation’s latest strategy to fashion its development thrust. However, the more one listened to the CEO the more one got the distinct impression that he was sending a signal to one or more of the older and more experienced players in the Caribbean.
