Coach Gideon Labban has submitted two interesting articles to add to your references on Fundamental Motor Skills (FMS). The content of these articles should give some additional guidance. Remember, most of the Physical literacy problems that Secondary School students face are a direct result of what they missed in Primary school. It may be necessary for us to assess our students in the FMS, Yes! even at Secondary Level.

Perceptual Motor Development is defined as one’s ability to receive, interpret and respond successfully to sensory information. Perception means to know or to interpret information, and Motor refers to output or responsive movement (Capon 1975). A Perceptual Motor Program (PMP), therefore, uses movement activities to enhance Academic or Cognitive skills. Improving Literacy through Motor Development Perceptual Motor Programs (PMP’s) have been shown to be an avenue to which the perceptual abilities of a child may be enhanced. There has been research conducted that demonstrates that improved perceptual Motor Development can positively affect a child’s Academic Performance. |
