The Digicel Grenadines Basketball Championship came to a close this past weekend at the Clive Tannis Hard Court in Bequia.
The Union Island All-Stars defeated the very disappointed Bequia All-Stars to win for the third consecutive year.
Bequia defeated Canouan by 2 points in a close semi final match on Friday night to make it to the finals, but just did not come out with their usual high energy for the finals on Saturday.
None of the big scoring guns for Bequia had their game face on, and Union Island, who led for most of the game, won an easy final!
The Canouan Islanders easily defeated Mayreau to take the Third place position. Despite this third place ranking Canouan took most of the individual awards: Power Forward Warrican Myers had very impressive statistics and was adjudged the Overall Tournament MVP, and the Team Canouan MVP, as well as the most points, most rebounds and most blocks awards, with 119, 99 and 15 respectively in 6 first round games!
Bequia All-stars Captain Kelan Edwards had the most steals award, while Union’s Kenny Alexander took the most Assists award.
Young Dario Glasgow of Union was adjudged his team’s MVP, while veteran shooter Keithroy Lavia of Bequia was Bequia’s MVP. Rookie Nemiah Alexander was Mayreau’s MVP!
