NOA Undertakes Beautification Project

The National Olympic Academy, the educational arm of the National Olympic Committee, consistent with the mandate of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), has embarked on a Sport and the Environment programme.

One of the activities of the programme is the beautification of selected playing fields across the country, beginning with the scenic Arnos Vale Sports Complex, where Phase 1 commences on Saturday 6 December 2008 at 9:00am. Trees will be planted in this Phase of the project.

The planting of the trees will be preceded by a brief opening ceremony beginning and will feature addresses from representatives from the National Sports Council and the National Olympic Committee. Members of the Junior Olympians Club will plant the trees.

The Ministry of Tourism, Forestry Division and the National Sports Council support this activity.

Earth Day Message from National Olympic Academy – Sports and the Environment Commission

Kingstown, April 22 2010.

On April 22, we celebrate the 40th Anniversary Earth Day. In Rio de Janeiro in 1992, at the UN Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED), most of the world’s nations adopted Agenda 21 as a global action plan to protect the Earth’s environment and non-renewable resources.

This Agenda 21 was adopted by the International Olympic Committee in June 1999, and was subsequently endorsed by the entire Olympic Movement.
