Inter Financial Sports turns 10

Team Athletics St Vincent and the Grenadines (TASVG) launched its 10th anniversary edition of the annual Inter Financial Institutions Sports Day on Tuesday 13 April 2010 with a brief media ceremony at Olympic House.

President of TASVG, Keith Joseph, proudly explained the success of the initiative taken 10 years ago to bring the nation’s financial institutions together in friendly, fun-filled rivalry in a family-like atmosphere. He noted that this year’s event which reverts to the Arnos Vale Playing Field on 15 May 2010 beginning at 1:30pm, will probably the biggest and most festive yet with a number of institutions coming on board for the very first time joining the other stalwarts.

 

Defending Champions, NCB, winners of seven titles over the period, threw down the gauntlet to all challengers when Randy Lawrence boasted of the depth of the organisation’s team at the Sports Day 2010. He noted that while the others could engage in their preparations they could only be competing for second place. RBTT’s Freddia Harper responded quickly by declaring his organisation’s structured approach to its preparations. For his part, Ivo Joslyn of GECCU, noted that his A-side was getting ready and would do its best on the day.

Minister of State in the Ministry responsible for Sport, Cecil ‘Ces’ McKie, commended TASVG for having taken the initiative and carrying the annual event through to its 10th anniversary. “1`0 years of any institution is an achievement and the TASVG deserves to be commended, McKie stated.

He urged all financial institutions to get on board this year and encouraged clients of the various institutions to come out in full support, helping to make the occasion a most memorable one. He also called for a broadening of the activities to include other sports like Netball and softball Cricket in 2011..

Thus far, the St Vincent Cooperative Bank, NCB, the Insurance Association, GECCU, RBTT and Mustique Company, have confirmed their participation and the others are expected to confirm in the next week.

TASVG has also confirmed that Premier Distributors have confirmed that it will be a partner for the event and that the Miss SVG Contestants will also put in an appearance.

It certainly seems destined to be a most festive occasion.a
