News from SVG Olympic Committee Executive

A Code of Ethics and Compliance Policy, full establishment of a Women in Sports Commission, a Finance Commission and a Marketing Commission are amongst key outcomes of a one-day Retreat convened by the Executive Committee of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Olympic Committee (SVGOC) at the Beachcombers Hotel yesterday, Sunday 14 January 2018.
The Executive reviewed the structure of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the Olympic Movement, the involvement of the SVGOC in regional and international multi-sport Games, the National Olympic Academy and the several programmes of Olympic Solidarity, the development arm of the IOC, and of the Pan American Solidarity organized by the Pan American Sports Organisation (PASO).
The Retreat also addressed the matter of improved communications on the part of the SVGOC and its affiliates and agreed the development of several policies to guide the operations of the organization as well as make greater use of social media. The Code of Conduct for national representative teams traveling under its aegis was also reviewed and the proposed the establishment of a Constitution Review Committee to bring the document more in line with contemporary developments in sport and the articles of the IOC’s Olympic Agenda 2020 and the Olympic Charter.
Sunday’s Retreat also focused on the preparation of Olympic Values Education Programmes that can be used by the nation’s schools. Also agreed was the introduction of a popular programme aimed at attracting more girls in sport and physical activity entitled, ‘Play Like A Girl’.
