SVGNOC Condolences on death of Samaranch

Mr Jacques Rogge

President Rogge

It is with great sadness that the St Vincent and the Grenadines NOC, like the rest of the Olympic Family learned of the death of former President, Juan Antonio Samaranch.

Death comes to us all but knowledge of this does nothing to ease the pain that comes with the loss of someone who has contributed so much to the International Olympic Movement and sport across the globe.

We in St Vincent and the Grenadine shad the distinct honour of hosting Mr Samaranch in 1988 and felt proud to have been asked by him to analyse then the readiness of the NOCs of Dominica, St Kitts and Nevis and St Lucia, for membership of the IOC and submit a Report which eventually guided the decision of the organisation in this regard.

We join the rest of the International Olympic Family in mourning the passing of a sports giant, a remarkable phenomenon, whose commitment to sport transformed the Movement for all time. We empathise with his own family and remain confident that his legacy will last. Kindly convey our sincere condolences to his family and to the entire Executive of the IOC who will perhaps miss him most.

Yours in Olympism

Keith Joseph
