GC2018 athletes, coaches and officials oath representatives announced for Opening Ceremony

The Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Corporation (GOLDOC) and Commonwealth Games Australia (CGA) announced the names of the three individuals who will take the oath on behalf of the athletes, officials and coaches at tonight’s Opening Ceremony.
Taking the oath on behalf of the athletes will be four-time Australian Commonwealth Games lawn bowls medallist Karen Murphy.
Taking the oath on behalf of the coaches will be long time Australian netball coach Lisa Alexander. Who led Australia to gold at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.
Taking the oath on behalf of the officials will be Queensland resident, Desmond Johnston. Des has been a National Technical Official since 1993 and has officiated at almost every championship since. Des was a Track Official at the Sydney 2000 Olympic and Paralympic Games and was the Assistant Chief Track Umpire at the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games.
The Oath forms a key part of the protocols associated with the official opening of the Commonwealth Games and is staged and scripted to reflect the Commonwealth Games Federation’s principals of Humanity, Equality and Destiny.
The Oath is taken in front of the assembled athletes, coaches, officials and spectators and broadcast as part of the Opening Ceremony to hundreds of millions throughout the world.
The XXI Commonwealth Games is being held on the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia. The Opening Ceremony will take place at 8:00pm Australian Eastern standard time on 4 April 2018. The Games conclude with the Closing Ceremony on April 15.
