Make room for the Geriatrics

Both retired from international football in 2001 only to opt out of it to participate in the country’s 2006 World Cup qualifiers and participated in the World up Finals. Following the 2006 World Cup they both retired again from international football, only to both opt out of it yet again in 2008.
We must bear in mind, however, that Yorke started all of the World Cup matches at the Finals while Latapy was allowed a mere 23 minutes in the last game the team played which was against Paraguay.
Still, in the context of the game in Trinidad and Tobago, these two players would be considered to have been outstanding and Yorke, the most successful in terms of contracts secured to play the sport abroad.

Armstrong
Lance Armstrong has been deemed something of a super hero following his amazing recovery from testicular cancer. His achievements on the bike have been simply astounding. His remarkable successes at the annual Tour de France have placed him in a category all by himself. He won this event on seven consecutive occasions – 1999 through to 2005. During this period he also won 122 individual stages of the event, 11 Time Trials and three Team Time Trials.
Among his other achievements he has a gold medal from the Road Race at the World Championships in Oslo, Norway, 1993 and an Olympic bronze for the Time Trial at the Sydney Olympics in 2000, victories in the Clasica de San Sebastien (1995) and in the Tour of Switzerland (2001).
Armstrong retired in 2005. Now we have him un-retiring, like Yorke and Latapy.

When to go?
The Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation (TTFF) is currently observing 100 years of existence. The organisation has had a number of events including a Gala Dinner at which several outstanding personalities who were deemed to have played an important role in the development of the game in the twin-island Republic were honoured. Of course there were some notable omissions and so a new organisation of veteran footballers has been formed and this will recognise the broad spectrum of contributors to the game.
