Team SVG officially welcomed to Glasgow
Team St. Vincent and the Grenadines was officially welcomed to Glasgow on 18 July 2014 at 6:00pm when they were treated to a spectacular cultural show of dancing, singing and pageantry at the International Zone at the Commonwealth Games Village.
The ceremony which included the playing of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines’ national anthem, the raising of the national flag and the exchange of gifts between the Chef de Mission Ms Jacintha Ballantyne and a representative from the Western Isles, lasted for about one hour.
The Vincentian team which comprise 34 athletes and officials, are drawn from five sporting disciplines – Athletics, Squash, Table Tennis, Swimming and Cycling. The first batch of twenty athletes arrived in Glasgow on the 14 July with the remaining expecting to join them after completing other national duties overseas.
Meanwhile the team is in high spirits as they continue to acclimatize and prepare for competition, which for athletics will start on the 26 July. The draw for squash was completed and their competition will start on Thursday 24th July 2014 as follows: – Kevin Hannaway Vs Alan Clyne (9) – Scotland

The atmosphere at the Commonwealth Village is filled with excitement and expectation as more and more athletes join the Commonwealth family. As of 22 July the village is home to 71 teams with a total of 7000 athletes and officials with an additional 3000 expected over the course of the Games.
