Bentick and Doyle take Silver at CSA
A seven member OECS squad consisting of four Vincentians Kai Bentick, Jason Doyle, Thandi Myers and Deiriai Myers competed in individuals and Team events in the recently concluded XXXII Junior Caribbean Squash Championship (CASA) held in Bermuda for the 12th -19th of July, 2014.
Girls under 17 Thandi Myers defeated Madeleine Rose(Bermuda) 11/5,11/7, 11/3, and lost to Taylor Fernandes in the Quarter-finals 11/6, 3/11,2/11,3/11. In the 5th /8th playoff Thandi defeated Jamie Leigh Edgehill(Trinidad) 3-1 (11/8, 8/11, 13/11,11/5 she went on to lose to Tiye Williams (Bermuda) 3-0 9/11,5/11,4/11 to finish 6th place in her category.
Deiriai Myers in the first round lost to No 2 seed Alyssa Mulling (Jamaica) 3-0. She went on to defeat her teammate Abayomi Maddox (BVI) 3-0 (11/8, 11/8, 11/6) securing a place in the finals of the Plate where she lost to Ashley Lynch (Jamaica) 3-1 (8/11, 14/12, 5/11, 7/11) to finish in 10th position
In the Team events Doyle established wins against Jamaica, Barbados, and Bermuda dropping only one match to Cayman. While Kai Bentick secured wins against Jamaica, Cayman, and Bermuda losing only to Barbados. Team OECS however had to settle for 7th place being unable to secure wins in the other age categories.
In the Girls team events Thandi Myers secure an easy win over Barbados 3-0 and OECS defeated Cayman Island when both Myers siblings established wins. This took the team into the 5/6 playoff where they lost to Bermuda.
The participating countries were Guyana, Trinidad, Barbados, OECS, Jamaica, Cayman Island and Host Bermuda.
