The St Vincent & the Grenadines Olympic Committee marked Commonwealth Day on Monday with a symbolic tree-planting exercise, highlighting the importance of environmental sustainability. The initiative is part of a broader Caribbean effort to promote climate awareness and foster regional unity.

The St. Vincent and the Grenadines Olympic Committee (SVGOC), which also serves as the Commonwealth Games Association (CGA), joined the rest of the members of Commonwealth Sport in commemorating Commonwealth Day on Monday, 9 March 2026, under the theme “Unlocking Opportunities Together For A Prosperous Commonwealth.”

The SVGOC/CGA’s Sustainability Commission engaged in a practical sustainability initiative in partnership with Garden Care Plus Ltd, supporting the Agricultural Science programmes at the Troumaca Ontario Secondary School and the Petit Bordel Secondary School, both located on the leeward side of St Vincent.

While many CGAs across the Commonwealth engaged in tree planting exercises, our SVGOC/CGA contributed resources that will support hands-on learning for students. At the Troumaca Ontario Secondary School, the donation included coconut fibre mulch, Cinnamon, Papaya, Soursop, Nutmeg, Plumrose, and Breadfruit trees, along with an irrigation system to help maintain the plants.

The Petit Bordel Secondary School received coconut fibre mulch and a variety of trees, including Cinnamon, Mango, Papaya, Soursop, Nutmeg, Plumrose, and Breadfruit.

The initiative reflects the Olympic Movement’s and Commonwealth Sport’s commitment to sustainability. Here’s more from that day.
