Trotman and Velox win SVG Managers Table Tennis

 

Media consultant Jeff Trotman and Laverne Velox, respectively won the male and female singles titles in the inaugural SVG Managers Table Tennis Tournament, held at the AVESCO Club House, Arnos Vale over the weekend.

Trotman defeated Walter Richards of Richards Transport & Trucking in straight sets in the mens final: 11-3; 11-7; 11-8, while Velox of the St. Vincent Cooperative Bank Ltd captured the womens title, playing undefeated in a round robin contest with two other competitors. She defeated both Camille Crichton of the Professional Secretarial and Consultancy Services Inc. and Veronica De Souza of Sentry West Indian Insurance Ltd. in straight sets to assert her dominance amongst the ladies.

Velox defeated Crichton 11-7; 11-6 and De Souza 11-4; 11-6. Crichton defeated De Souza 11-4; 11-2 to take the second place.

Trotman lost only won game against his eight opponents during the competition and that was when he received a scare by losing the first game in his semi final encounter with Dougal Byron-Cox Jnr. of Cox and Richards Shipping & Customs Brokers Ltd. He recovered to win the encounter by three games to one – 12-14; 11-8; 11-3 – before making light work of Richards in the final.

Richards had earlier defeated former national player, Khalique Bailey of LIME in straights sets in the semi finals 11-1; 11- 6. C

ox earned the third place by defeating the out of form Bailey 14-12; 7-11; 11-4.

The tournament, which was organized jointly by the SVGTTA and the Arnos Vale Education, Sports and Cultural Organization (AVESCO) to commemorate this years Emancipation celebrations, is expected to be an annual affair. It attracted over forty managers from the local private sector including three participants from the visiting Logos Hope Two floating book fair.
