We must begin preparations now.
Each national association desirous of participating must be realistic and engage in deliberate analysis of that reality. Athletes must have already been identified and their training programmes and competitions schedules should have already been prepared.
We all have a responsibility to do the best we can with the resources at our disposal. If there is a greater need for a return to the basics of talent identification rather than engage in top level competitions ill-prepared then we must bite the bullet and engage in development where it is most needed.
Let us be responsible in the management of the available resources especially those offered to national sports associations through the National Olympic Committee. To do otherwise would be to shoot ourselves in the feet.
